Meals
Nurturing guests with delicious and nourishing food at each meal is a top priority of Seven Oaks. They offer lacto-ovo vegetarian meals with fresh, seasonal ingredients prepared in healthful ways.
Intensive Retreat
Mystic Fire is an intensive retreat designed to help you deepen your spiritual practice. The Path Work, schedule, and rituals may, at times, be physically and emotionally demanding. It is important that you prepare accordingly for your time at this event.
Lodging
There are several climate controlled buildings at the retreat center, all of which have shared rooms with twin beds and shared bathrooms. All beds include bedding and pillows for your comfort. Your lodging assignment will be based, in part on your Path assignment. If you have mobility or accessibility requirements, please be sure to note that on your registration form.
Event Rules
Conduct: The purpose of this event is to foster opportunities for introspection, unity, and acceptance. In order to support that goal, the staff of Mystic Fire Retreat reserves the right to remove people from the event if they are behaving in a way that is harmful to others, to the site, or to the smooth operation of the event itself. Guests who are asked to leave as a result of disruptive behavior will not be refunded.
Retreat Environment: Seven Oaks is a retreat center that strives to maintain a healing environment for its guests. We ask that all guests respect the physical environment of this center. No smoking/vaping, alcohol, violence, weapons, illegal drugs or flame candles are allowed anywhere on the property.
Co-op Service: ● Guests will be given linens at the end of each assigned bed and will make and strip their own beds. Upon departure linens and towels are to be placed in the laundry rooms or hampers in each respective house. ● Guests bus their own dishes to the kitchen and will be responsible for cleaning up the dining room after each meal.
Remaining on premises: Upon check-in, guests will be asked to remain on the Seven Oaks Retreat Center property until the conclusion of the event. Guests are from leaving the property except under emergency situations. To avoid disruptions, anyone leaving for non-emergency reasons will not be permitted to return to the event.
Smoking and Fire: NO SMOKING or vaping is allowed on campus in any building, grounds, or forest area. No open flame candles allowed anywhere on campus. Also, because of the grave danger of forest, brush, or building fires violations of this policy can result in up to $500 fines. Thank you for helping us to preserve the land.
Pets: The pets of guests are not allowed on the property.
We do not assume responsibility for accidents, theft or losses while rental guests are on the property.
Photography: Please do not take photos of any participants without their express permission. Guests who do not wish to have their photos publicly shared will be wearing a yellow wristband as an identifier. Regardless of whether or not someone is wearing a yellow wristband, please ask permission first.
Blankets, bedspreads, towels and pillows are intended for indoor use only. Guests who use indoor items outdoors may be subject to a fine to professionally clean the item or replace the item.
Lost and Found items are kept for one month/30 days. If an item has not been reported missing or if it has not been picked up within 30 days, the item will be donated to local shelters. Seven Oaks will mail claimed items at the owner’s request and send a bill for postage and handling.
We reserve the right to revise these policies without notice.
What to Bring
Comfort Items ● Ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. ● Plenty of extra socks. ● Extra footwear in case of inclement weather. ● Water bottle ● Travel mug for tea or coffee ● Snacks in case you get hungry between meals.
Personal Hygiene Items ● Towels and a wash cloth ● Shampoo/conditioner ● Soap; either unscented or a scent that deters insects such as Tea Tree, Rosemary or Geranium. ● Toothbrush and toothpaste ● Deodorant ● Comb or brush ● Insect repellent ● Prescription medications (please keep them in their original, labeled containers) ● If you are allergic to bee stings, and you have an epi-pen, please bring it, and let our staff know about it.
Clothing ● Sturdy walking shoes. You will spend a significant time outdoors during this event and your Path mentor may include a good deal of walking throughout the weekend. ● Rain gear (poncho, umbrella, waterproof shoes) Unless the weather is dangerous, all planned outdoor activities will go on as scheduled indoors and out. ● Sun gear (sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, etc.) ● Clothing that is weather-appropriate. Please check the weather reports prior to packing, and then remember that meteorology is a less-exact science than Magic 8-Ball Divination, so pack for a wide range of possible temperatures, especially for bedtime. Remember: Layers are your friend. ● Extra socks and shoes, because if you don't bring them, and it rains, and you have to walk around in squishy wet socks and shoes, you'll wish you had. ● Slippers/indoor-only footwear. There are several buildings and/or rooms on site that require that we remove our outdoor footwear. We recommend selecting shoes that are easy to slip on and remove to make this easier. Carrying around a pair of slippers or house shoes to slip into when you're about to enter one of these spaces is the best way to be respectful to our hosts. ● Bathrobe ● Shower shoes. Dollar store flip flops are great for this.
Ritual, Workshop, and Communal Gathering Gear ● Altar item representing who you aspire to be by the end of the event to place on the Community Altar. You will be taking this item home at the end of the weekend. ● Drums, rattles, bells, or other musical instruments ● Notebook and writing implements for taking notes, journaling, sketching, or whatever you are inspired to do. ● A cushion, mat, or camp chair for use during Path sessions and anywhere else you'd like. ● Positive energy. Please be mindful of the energy you bring into this sacred space.
Once registration has closed and Path assignments are finalized, your Path leader will send you an email with more information about your Path, and this may include additional items that you should bring that are specific to what you will be doing over the course of the retreat.
Miscellaneous ● Flashlight and extra batteries ● Extra pillows and blankets if you need them ● Folding cart to make it easier to get your belongings to where you'll be staying
